Root scaling is to remove plaque and other impurities that stick to the root surface under the gums thoroughly. The method is similar to conventional scaling, with the difference being that a typical scaling removes stains on the teeth that emerge from the gums. However, root scaling removes about 3 millimeters of stains under the gums.
