The hepatitis A vaccine is made from inactivated hepatitis A virus. It is effective and safe, administered via intramuscular injection in two doses, 6-12 months apart. Who should receive it? - Those who do not have immunity to the disease. - Children aged 1 year and older. - People in high-risk occupations for contracting and spreading the disease, such as food handlers, childcare workers, military personnel, and healthcare workers. - Travelers visiting endemic areas such as Central and South America, the Caribbean, Asia (excluding Japan), Africa, and Eastern Europe. The vaccine should be given at least one month before travel. - Individuals with chronic liver diseases, such as hepatitis B or those who consume alcohol excessively. - Men who have sex with men. - People who use illicit drugs. - Close contacts of infected individuals. - People with hemophilia. Who should not? - Those with a history of severe allergic reactions to a previous hepatitis A vaccine dose or its components. - Individuals with high fever or acute illness should postpone the vaccination until recovery. - People with minor colds without fever can still receive the vaccine.
